Tonight! Assume Nothing screening at the AGGV
MediaNet presents a screening of works by members Judith Price, Grace Salez, Rick Raxlen, Pippa Hirst, Brian MacDonald and Melissa Flagg
at 7:30pm at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (1040 Moss St.). The cost is the price of gallery admission.
This screening focuses on the lives of individuals, many of them from our community, who have affected or influenced the lives of the filmmakers.
There will be a discussion with the filmmakers and a question and answer period after the screening.
The project is based on artist Harrell Fletcher’s website, Some People (See www.somepeoplepeople.com/) in which people are asked to submit stories about individuals in their lives.

MEDIANET CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
MediaNet member Fran Benton is looking for submissions for her roving video trailer project
A mobile video exhibition built into a box trailer, pulled by a Toyota Matrix, will be driving to various locations in Victoria this summer. There are 4 viewing ports in the trailer, two on each side. In each port is a DVD player and headphones. When a good site is located the video artist and driver park the car and trailer, set up the trailer and a roof sign, start the videos running, and then greet the visitors.
Fran is looking for works no longer than 3 minutes (1-2 min ideal) to be seen by the public. As this project is funded by Fran there are no entry fees or artist fees.

MediaNet is considering doing a series of workshops on this extremely versatile animation program over the summer and fall (one a month for a few months). “This six year long Participatory Action Research Project resulted in working with a group of Consumers of mental health services, not as consultants or subjects of a study, but as researcher themselves exploring topics they felt most important, housing and the relationship between them and service providers and caregivers. The result, as the prof assisting them is in the Faculty of Communication & Culture with and interest in out-of-the-usual way of disseminating the information, is a huge mural that will fill our lobby, a booklet version of the mural, a 29 min video and a crew who can ably inform the “system” from the inside of their lived experience of schizophrenia what’s good and what they would like to see improve.”

The CACGV invites submissions for our Practicing Artist Awards for 2009 in Media Art.
$1000 will be awarded in each category of Personal Expression and Experimental Expression. Three awards of merit and two of honourable mention in each category.
Personal Expression may include personal documentary, family, or impressionistic works.
Experimental Expression may include works which push the boundaries of technology, form or substance
1. Limited to works 15 minutes or less in duration. Must be submitted in DVD or CD only (installation proposals may be submitted in pdf format on DVD or CD
2. Must have been produced within the last three years.
3. Not eligible: corporate or sponsored films/videos, music videos, programs slated for broadcast or previously broadcast on television.
4. Entrants are limited to directors who are residents of the CRD.
Entires must include:
1. A DVD (NTSC only) copy of your work.
2. A one-page resume outlining your training and any current professional experience, noting any previously created works. Please insure your contact information is current and complete.
3. Three photos from the work and a one-paragraph description of the work.
