MEDIANET MEMBERS MEETING – SCREENING AND TALK WITH COLLEEN CRAIG – MAY 17

MediaNet members are invited to an evening screening with Member Colleen Craig on Thursday 17 May at 7 PM. MediaNet office.
Colleen has been working on a number of interesting fronts recently. Come and view her hilarious documentaion of “Ms Pudding”. “Ms Pudding” is significant for it’s use of laughter and comedy to convey information on a serious topic in a way worms it’s way into your consciousness in a most entertaining and pleasent way. Collen will also show clips from a recent work featuring a local First Nations community working to teach thier traditional weaving techniques to a new generation. Come, see and talk about filmmaking with Colleen and other MediaNet Members.

MEDIANET PROGRAMMING TASK FORCE MEETING – MAY 23

MediaNet members are invited to participate at the Programming Task Force meeting on May 23rd, at 7 pm at the MediaNet office. The goal of the meeting is to brainstorm ideas for programming for the coming year, a chance for members to express what kind of screenings, artist talks, workshops and other events that they think MediaNet should organize. The participants will assess what the needs of the membership are, and discuss what MediaNet’s programming strategy should be for the next couple of years. Members who attend the meeting and participate on the Task Force will earn volbucks.

MEDIANET MEMBERS NEEDED TO VOLUNTEER

MediaNet is seeking members interested in working on putting together several TV shows presenting films and videos by MediaNet members, to air on Shawcable in collaboration with the community television group, ICTV. We need production managers, directors, camera operators, sound recorders, lighting, etc. Earn volbucks! Contact MediaNet Executive Director Peter Sandmark, at 381-4428.

Also MediaNet is looking to train 2 members to work as projectionists on occasional basis. MediaNet’s projector, screen and sound system are rented out to other cultural groups on a regular basis and we need additional projectionists. To apply contact Technical Director, Kirk Schwartz at 381-4428.

FINAL DETAILS FOR VICTORIA’S FIRST DOCUMENTARY FILM SLAM

“Filmmaking should be a lot of fun” say’s MediaNet’s workshop co-ordinator Kirk Schwartz. “Documentaries can be serious or funny and we, at MediaNet, are looking to put some fun into documentary making” says Schwartz. Individuals or teams can enter and any subject, any style or any theme is ok. Says Schwartz “any subject, if you have a passion for it, is a good subject for a doc. From sausage making to politics and from your grandparents story to living on the street, all stories are fascinating if you are fascinated with them”.

MediaNet invites all local filmmakers to register for the Slam Doc filmmaking challege on or before 18 May. Filmmakers must not shoot any footage before 18 May.
