MEDIANET’S GREENLIGHT PRODUCTION GRANT PROGRAM – DEADLINE SEPT 17

MediaNet presents its new GREENLIGHT Production Project Grant program. GREENLIGHT will provide $1000 in support for a short (max. 10 min.) video production for artists at all levels in either production or post-production. There will be 4 grants given, determined by a juried competition. The deadline is September 17th, 2007. All genres are accepted (ie. experimental, drama, documentary, video installation, new media, etc.). Proposals will be assessed by an independent jury and the successful applicants have up to six months to complete their project. A screening of the completed productions will be organized and presented by MediaNet. Recipients must provide a copy of their completed tape to be kept in MediaNet’s archives. Each GREENLIGHT recipient will receive MediaNet Membership for a year, free access to two MediaNet workshops of their choice; a $250 honorarium, and $750 value in equipment services from MediaNet. Applicants must submit: a CV, application form, 1 page description of their project, a production schedule, a budget and support material on DVD. Artists will retain copyright of their production, and individuals need not be members to apply.

MediaNet presents the Reel Dance Film Fest, August 4 & 11, 2007

VICTORIA – MEDIANET announces the 2007 edition of the Reel Dance Film Fest, showcasing dance films from around the world! The festival will take place on August 4th (7 pm) at the Victoria Arts Connection, located at 2750 Quadra, and on August 11th, (7 pm) 2007, at the Metro Studios, 1411 Quadra, in Victoria. The festival will present international dance films, in conjunction with MediaNet’s Dance for the Camera (DFTC) Program facilitated by Guggenheim Fellowship winner Ellen Bromberg.

MediaNet is looking for volunteers from its membership for he two-week program assisting choreographers, filmmakers, and dancers in shooting and editing their dance films. The screening on August 11th will feature the dance films created at this summer’s Dance for the Camera workshop.

VICTORIA FILM FESTIVAL SEEKS OPERATIONS COORDINATOR – DEADLINE JULY 6

The Victoria Film Festival, a not for profit organization, seekis an experienced person to manage operations. Operations is required to coordinate events, box office set up and management, and complete grant applications. Experience in a festival environment, the volunteer sector or with non-profit groups is desirable. Box office experience is required. Skills should include excellent time-management, public speaking, team building and leadership, conflict resolution, scheduling, and maintain a positive and patient attitude. Must have computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, email and Internet navigation. Not motivated by money. The position is demanding, creative, fun and rewarding. Call for submissions – Main Film in partnership with Avatar – AUG 31

Aberrations. There are many concrete and abstract meanings associated with this word. What does an aberration look like? Sound like? We are inviting artists to explore the concept / possibilty of aberrations – to question notions of reality / normality / morality – and create a one minute aberration of their own. Artist and exhibition fees will be paid. Artists will retain all creative control and copyright over their works. All finished pieces for the installation Aberrations become the property of Main Film for the expressed purpose of exhibition(s) and the publicity for the exhibition(s). All finished works for image and sound must be exactly one minute in length and finished in a digital format. Open to artists in all regions of Canada and Québec. Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant. Applicants must be ‘mid-career’ or ‘established’ in their art practice. (Please refer to the Canada Council website for the definition of Mid-career artists and Established artists.)

EAGLEARTS SEEKS FILM INSTRUCTOR

Eaglearts Summer Academy for Ages 12 -15(eaglearts.ca)
is seeking a narrative film (video) production instructor for a
two week course. Workshop runs July 31 – Aug 12 in Shawnigan Lake BC
Instructor would work with 6 – 10 students to explore the process of conceptualizing
an idea, writing, story boarding, shooting and editing a short film under 5 minutes.
Individual should have experience teaching and enjoy working with children.
This is a residential camp and staying on campus with room and board included is an option.

REGENT PARK FILM FEST IN ONTARIO SEEKS SUBMISSIONS – DEADLINE JUNE 29

Regent Park Film Festival is dedicated to bringing the finest works
relevant to the communities living in Regent Park, the oldest low
income housing in Canada, with an emphasis on films from our regions
of origin South Asia, Africa, East Asia, First Nation, Middle East,
Caribbean, Latin America,North America and the rest of the world. They
are looking for films with topics relevant to the RP community
such as Homelessnes, Dislocation, Mental Health /
Addiction,Immigration, Queer, Environment, Community Activism, etc.
