Tonight- VIFPA film industry mixer, Thursday Oct 23, from 5:30-7 pm.

You are invited to  join members of the Victoria Film Producers’ Association for one of our film industry mixers, in the Collard Room at Swans.
If you arrive close to 5:30 and the door is closed, it’s just because we’re keeping out the kitchen noise; we’ll be wrapping up our meeting by then so come on in anytime after 5:30

VIFPA  is seeking assistance – will pay honorarium

The Victoria Film Producers’ Association (ViFPA) is seeking an organized and self-motivated person with an interest in film to coordinate and promote screenings of our members’ work. In September, our first afternoon documentary event at Empire Theatres Capitol 6 brought in more than 60 people. Our next event is planned for sometime in November. (date to be chosen soon)
ViFPA will pay a person to coordinate, promote, arrange volunteers (job description pending), and attend to assist at the next two screenings an honorarium of $100 plus 25% of the door (donations) per screening. This is also a good opportunity to get to know Victoria’s film & TV production community.
Interested, or know someone who is? Please e-mail Jordan Stratford and copy as soon as possible.

Movie Monday

6:30 pm Monday 27 October 2008
Store, 2007, 86 min

“Here’s a feature documentary about peoples’ obsession to hanging on to stuff. Is it simply materialism or an innate genetic drive? A desire to have immortality by creating a physical identity or just the unwillingness to let the past go? Where’s the line between collecting and hoarding? One Storage facility manager says, “this is caused by the 4-Ds Divorce, Drugs, Drinking and Death.” Hopefully there are more pleasant reasons as well, not just human failings. “Store is an 86-minute documentary that employs a rapid fire pace, and a pass-the-baton style. Full of lovable, driven and quirky characters who are often compelled to laugh and cry while explaining the forces powering this 15 billion-dollar industry.

In short, the film explores what is in all these units, how long things stay in storage, at what cost, the various ways people use storage units, and why people pay so much to hold on to things that aren’t worth very much. Like a storage facility, every door is the same, but each story is unique.”
