A three week learning and production program to experiment with a variety of forms and techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to expand their filmmaking horizons through a variety of seminars and workshops. MEDIANET CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
MediaNet member Fran Benton is looking for submissions for her roving video trailer project
A mobile video exhibition built into a box trailer, pulled by a Toyota Matrix, will be driving to various locations in Victoria this summer. There are 4 viewing ports in the trailer, two on each side. In each port is a DVD player and headphones. When a good site is located the video artist and driver park the car and trailer, set up the trailer and a roof sign, start the videos running, and then greet the visitors.
Fran is looking for works no longer than 3 minutes (1-2 min ideal) to be seen by the public. As this project is funded by Fran there are no entry fees or artist fees.

The World’s Fastest Indian, 2005, 127 min
This story is a film based on the legendary New Zealand speed bike racer Burt Munro and his highly modified Indian ‘Scout’ motorcycle. Munro set numerous land speed records for motorcycles with engines less than 1000 cc at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah in the late 1950s and into the 1960s. Many of his records still stand to this day. Burt’s a real guy. Anthony Hopkins plays him in this biopic, apparently very true to his gregarious, resourceful self, and true to the odyssey Burt travelled to get to his Salt Flats destination from New Zealand with almost no money and threatening health problems. Chris Kruger is a video editor and graphic designer who has been working with Final Cut Pro and related Studio programs for a number of years. He recently edited ‘Mulligans’ – a feature film shot in Victoria which has screened at over 50 festivals around the world including the 2009 Victoria Film Festival, and had a short of his own, ‘Coffee Music’ in the 2009 VFF as well. He also works for the Victoria Film Festival as Outreach Coordinator, working with local high schools to encourage students and classes to produce shorts.

The CACGV invites submissions for our Practicing Artist Awards for 2009 in Media Art.
$1000 will be awarded in each category of Personal Expression and Experimental Expression. Three awards of merit and two of honourable mention in each category.
Personal Expression may include personal documentary, family, or impressionistic works.
Experimental Expression may include works which push the boundaries of technology, form or substance
1. Limited to works 15 minutes or less in duration. Must be submitted in DVD or CD only (installation proposals may be submitted in pdf format on DVD or CD
2. Must have been produced within the last three years.
3. Not eligible: corporate or sponsored films/videos, music videos, programs slated for broadcast or previously broadcast on television.
4. Entrants are limited to directors who are residents of the CRD.
Entires must include:
1. A DVD (NTSC only) copy of your work.
2. A one-page resume outlining your training and any current professional experience, noting any previously created works. Please insure your contact information is current and complete.
3. Three photos from the work and a one-paragraph description of the work.

The Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) is Canada’s oldest festival dedicated to exhibiting films and videos by North American artists of Asian heritage. It is committed to supporting both emerging talent and established filmmakers. Visiting artists have included Jessica Yu, Justin Lin, and Michael Kang, as well as BC filmmakers Mina Shum, Julia Kwan, Nilesh Patel, Eunhee Cha, and Jeff Chiba Stearns.
VAFF invites submissions for its 13th annual festival, November 5th-8th, 2009. Early bird deadline is April 30th; final closing deadline is May 31st (postmarked – no exceptions).
All films in the Open Call must include a North American Asian in a key creative role (writer, director, producer). Earlybird entry fee: $10 (CDN or US); Regular entry fee: $20 (CDN or US). Entry fee is non-refundable.

2009 Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival

The 8th Annual Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival (WAFF) invites
artists to submit their work to one of North America’s longest-running
indigenous film and video festivals, happening this November 18-22,
2009.
Submissions are now being accepted in seven categories. WAFF pays
screening fees to artists and there is no submission fee for entries
received on or before the June 19 deadline (with a $25 late fee
applying thereafter).
