MediaNet is pleased to present EcoDoc, a program for filmmakers and environmentalists to meet and
produce short documentary films about issues relating to the environment, global warming, and
sustainable development.

Participants will be individually assisted while exploring the technical, practical and artistic challenges involved in creating
an environmental video in a supportive and collaborative community, and will receive mentorship from experienced environmental
film and videomakers such as Richard Boyce ( ), Tom Shandel ( ), Mandy Leith and our own MediaNet Crew

Blender interest group
The next meeting of the Blender 3D animation interest group will be on Sat 1 Aug at 11 am at the MediaNet office. The Blender Interest group is open to all members and doesn’t require previous knowledge of Blender. At Saturday meetings Doug Jones will present a short lesson about a Blender topic. Members are encouraged to show and explain techniques and topics they have discovered as well as putting forward their Blender questions and challenges for the group to discuss. The date for the next Blender group meeting will be set at each meeting.

July 23, 2009 – Film Screening 7:00pm. The Samurai Rebellion, a 1967 samurai classic directed by Masaki Kobayashi. This classic follows the story of Isaburo, a renowned swordsman who takes a heroic but deadly stand for individual freedom.

July 30, 2009 – Film Screening 7:00pm. Zatoichi, a 2003 award-winning samurai drama written, co-directed, and starring Japanese entertainment legend Takeshi Kitano.

Deeper into Movies

This summer CineVic has a rather dashing co-op student by the name of Shane Scott-Travis. He is very enthusiastic about cinema, enjoys long walks on the beach, doing write-ups such as this, and talking shop. Shane has taken it upon himself to host a series of screenings each Wednesday in July @ 7:30pm at CineVic!

You can expect hand-picked faves from Jean-Luc Godard, Jacques Demy, Michelangelo Antonioni and Bob Rafelson. Shane will be introducing each of the films and leading a lively discussion after each screening.

These screenings are FREE and open to the public. Bring your own snacks if you so desire.

The first of four Wednesday evenings will begin the workshop process that leads to rehearsal then a showcase performance before a live audience. The actors, along with their scene partners will workshop and develop the selected material under the guidance of instructor Joe McCoy. On the Saturday a final rehearsal and run-through will take place before the audience arrives* and the showcase performance starts at 2.30. Afterwards everyone will be invited to enjoy refreshments and snacks. And because of limited space we’re suggesting each actor be allowed to invite only two (possibly) three people to the showcase performance.

SUMMER CAMPS! for Young Actors 8 – 15*
Monday – Thursday: 10 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.
Cost: 195 (plus 5% g.s.t.)

A four day fun-filled camp working with scenes, commercials and Improvisation and finding out what it means to be on-set. Video-taping and playback are used throughout the camp to monitor the progress and provide the understanding of how to work on camera for the young actors. Please bring a bag lunch Monday through Wednesday. On the Thursday and last day of camp we do a final shoot and enjoy a pizza lunch provided by the studio before presenting playback to the parents and guests on the closing afternoon. Outside locations are sometimes used. Camps are supervised at all times. *We try to keep camp age groups within a 4 year span.
