CALL FOR MEDIA ARTISTS

G++ is a window-front art gallery that will open in Victoria, BC in September, 2011. The gallery will be the first in Victoria to focus exclusively on interactive multimedia. The space has been donated by Limbic Media, a company that specializes in real-time interactive multimedia control technologies for use in entertainment markets, education, research, and the fine arts.

The Interactive Film & Video Series at G++ will pair five film and video artists with the team of interaction designers and engineers at Limbic Media to produce five interactive window-front multimedia installations. Each installation will have an interactive component that will enable the public to directly manipulate multimedia content through a variety of interactive mechanisms including: gesture, voice, physical interfaces, mobile devices, and the web.

We are currently seeking film and video artists to submit applications to participate in the series. Selected artists will receive an artist fee ($1399 – CARFAC – Category I, Solo Exhibition, Project), a small operating budget, interaction design and engineering support, curatorial assistance and promotion.

The call closes at Midnight on August 21, 2011. Late submissions will not be considered.

To apply, fill out our online Application Form.

Screenings

Movie Monday

6:30 pm Monday 1 Aug 2011

Double Happiness, 1994, 87 min

BC Day

This BC-made story was a breakout film for young Sandra Oh and Callum Keith Rennie. It portrays a young Vancouver woman trying to satisfy the values of her strict Chinese family and her own desire to branch out from those narrow confines; to become an artist and actress and to date who she really likes, not her parents’ choices for her. Her brother has been disowned for his disloyal choices. “Double Happiness is when you make yourself happy and everyone else happy too.” …..a tricky task. Directed by Mina Chum, shot in Vancouver. Pg13

6:30 pm Monday 8 Aug 2011

Trigger, 2010, 78 min

Think: Canadian director Bruce MacDonald wants to cross My Dinner with André with a story about aging rock stars reuniting a dozen years after a nasty breakup. It works brilliantly! R

This script was specially adapted for Tracy Wright by her long-time collaborators who she knew was dying. The project is a great tribute to her craft and their care for her. more, an interview with Molly Parker and a Times-Colonist review

Movies are shown on a 12′ screen in the Eric Martin Pavilion in the 1900 block of Fort St. Admission by donation! Pop & popcorn at ridiculously low prices
