MediaNet member Richard Boyce launching an Indiegogo Campaign for documentaries on Pipeline

http://coastaltarsands.ca

There’s very little time left before the Harper government plans to approve the Enbridge Corporation’s Northern Gateway Pipeline Project in early 2014. This plan includes hundreds of supertankers navigating through the inside passage along the central coast of British Columbia, loaded with millions of barrels of Alberta Tarsands Bitumen for export to China.

This is one of the most pressing environmental issue of our time. These coastal waters are intense, the shorelines extremely rugged, and the environment extremely diverse. Before deciding its future people deserve to see more than animated TV ads, with glass calm waters absent of a maze of islands, produced by the Enbridge Corporation which is spending $350 million promoting its project.  My media project will reveal the reality of this incredible environment and I need your help to complete it. More details: http://coastaltarsands.ca

I’m taking an innovative approach to this media production by producing a series of short ‘mini-docs’ that I will post on the internet to meet pressing public deadlines, which will be combined to complete a full length documentary. I’ve started a fund raising campaign via Indiegogo to cover the production cost of the first ‘mini-doc,’ which needs to be released prior to the BC Election May 14, 2013  http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/coastal-tarsands

Please join me by donating and help spread this message by forwarding to friends.

First People’s House on April 9 from 6-8pm.

He is seeking funds to complete his first feature film “Pensive Times of an Urban Tribe.”

The story is about a group of urban Indigenous people living in Toronto, Canada, who each face extreme situations in their daily lives as they battle their inner and outer demons.A young art student named Sally Black gets the group together to join her writers session and asks permission to share their stories. This becomes a blog site called The Pensive Times.

Video portraits of the 2013 Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts Awards recipients are unveiled.

For the first time, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA) partnered to commission Canadian Media artists to create videos that portray the recipients of the Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts.

Seven filmmakers were paired with the seven winners and given complete creative control to produce unique videos that celebrate the winner’s achievements and their outstanding contributions to Canadian Culture. The video profiles are works of art in themselves, and as such reveal bits about the artists behind the camera.

The videos can be seen on The Canada Council’s website: http://ggavma.canadacouncil.ca/

Film a Documentary About

Inclusive Dance in East Asia!

Opportunity for Filmmaker

To celebrate 25 years of DanceAbility International, we are looking for a filmmaker, or Director of Photography/camera-person to document our trip to Mongolia, Indonesia, and the Philippines!

As a small nonprofit organization, DanceAbility Interntational does not have money to pay a fee to a filmmaker. He/she will be responsible for all related expenses. However, we have launched a $5,000 Kickstarter campaign. We feel confident we can meet this goal. The funds raised will go to the filmmaker to offset travel expenses and for a possible honorarium (small fee).

SCREENINGS

Movie Monday

6:30 pm Monday 8 Apr 2013

Modra, 80 min, 2010

A gentle story about the confusion of being 17. After a breakup a young Toronto woman, invites a lad she hardly knows to accompany her on a visit to her ancestral home of Modra in Slovakia. A gentle story unfolds into a rich experience. Part travelogue, part love story, part reflection on immigrant roots in the old country, wholly satisfying. “You don’t need big budgets. You need vision and heart. This made my heart open.” Billie Mintz Pg13 trailer

Trust me on this one! Winning making of clips about this Canadian family project will be added to our screening.

Reluctant Genius: The Passionate Life And Inventive Mind Of Alexander Graham Bell

Presentation and reading by author Charlotte Gray, approximately 105 min

I’ve been wanting to present this remarkable story for years, after hearing Charlotte Gray speak to my son’s convocation at Queens University and later reading her book Reluctant Genius: The Passionate Life And Inventive Mind Of Alexander Graham Bell. Bell is typical of the bipolar spectrum personality; full of brilliant ideas, moody, messy, needs a good woman to organize his life. Happily he found one who was his helpmate, a remarkable woman herself. His accomplishments go way beyond inventing the telephone, into all aspects of his world; communication for the deaf, mentor to Helen Keller, sheep breeder, hydrofoil and airplane development, established the National Geographic Society…. it’s an amazing life story! more.

Movies are shown on a 12′ screen in the Eric Martin Pavilion in the 1900 block of Fort St. Admission by donation! Pop & popcorn at ridiculously low prices. See: http://islandnet.com/mm/
